The State of Texas requires anyone applying to become a notary or renewing their notary commission to first purchase a $10,000 Texas Notary Public Surety Bond from a bonding company licensed in the state. This bond must be valid for four years and is a mandatory step before submitting your application. Good news—it’s already included in our Traditional+Online Notary Package, so you’re covered from the start.
For all your paper notarizations in Texas, a wet-ink notary stamp is a must-have. These stamps are uniquely produced for each notary and must follow strict state guidelines for their design and content. Don't worry about sourcing one; your vital notary stamp comes conveniently included in our Traditional+Online Notary Package!
In Texas, notaries are required to record every notarization in a record book, even if no fee is collected. Each entry must include the signer’s information, document details, date, and other necessary data. A lightweight, softcover notary recordkeeping book is included in the Traditional Notary Package for easy, compliant recordkeeping.
A PFX file is your Digital Certificate X.509, an encrypted computer file crucial for digital signing. While you can't view its contents directly (it's often shown as an envelope with a key or a certificate icon), it's specifically designed to digitally sign documents like PDFs and DOCX files securely. This vital Digital Certificate X.509 comes included in your Traditional+Online Notary Package.
An electronic notary seal (e-seal) is simply the digital version of your traditional ink stamp. It functions just like a digital copy of that wet-ink impression, perfect for electronically notarizing documents, including remote online notarizations. And yes, your e-seal is included in the Traditional+Online Notary Package!
A notary commission is granted for four years; to continue your commission without interruption, you should apply to new terms 90 days before your current commission expires. It has the exact requirements as a new notary commission but allows the commission to be kept seamless and uninterrupted. It is optional and not included in the Traditional + Online Notary Package.
To become a Texas notary or renew a notary commission, application requires. You can do this yourself, with a general waiting time of about 4 weeks. Alternatively, authorized bond companies like TXNotaryForm.com can handle the application for you, offering expedited processing with a waiting time of less than a week. It is optional in the Traditional + Online Notary Package.
Texas doesn't require E&O insurance for notaries. Your notary bond covers claims, but you have to repay the surety company. E&O insurance covers these claims, safeguarding your finances. It's not included in the Traditional+Online Notary Package. Consider our Premium Notary Package for inclusion, or add it separately with a Customized Notary Package.
To become a Texas notary, you just need to be 18+, live or work in Texas, and have a clean criminal record. Meet these? Great, you're eligible! The next crucial step is acquiring a Texas Notary Surety Bond, which TXNotaryForm.com can assist you with. If you plan to notarize only physical documents in person, our Traditional Notary Package is your best bet. It includes your mandatory Notary Bond, notary stamp, and recordkeeping book.
Texas doesn’t require Errors & Omissions (E&O) insurance, but it’s an essential layer of protection. While your notary bond protects the public, you’re personally liable if a claim is made—and repayment falls on you. E&O insurance helps cover these potential costs, including legal fees, even for honest mistakes, protecting your finances and peace of mind. Our Premium Notary Package includes this critical E&O coverage, along with all the required and essential notary supplies—so you’re fully equipped and protected from the start.
It is the first notary commission you should obtain to start notarizing documents. The traditional notary commission allows you to meet with the signer in person, meaning each time you notarize a document, you must meet the person for whom the document is notarized and either witness signing or accept sworn. But in any case, you must meet with the signer in person each time.
Traditional notary commission allows the notarization of tangible (paper) documents and computer file documents. You still meet in person, sitting next to each other and using a computer instead of paper, pen, and ink-stamp. For such notarization, you need an electronic seal to use.
If you're a commissioned Texas notary public, you can apply to become an online notary—an upgrade to your traditional commission. Online notaries are authorized to meet with clients via video calls using platforms like Zoom, Teams, or Google Meet. You must see, hear, and record each notarization session. Although the signer must still appear before you, this can now be done remotely. Online notaries can perform Remote Online Notarization (RON), allowing them to notarize digital documents using an x.509 digital certificate and electronic seal. They can also notarize physical documents by witnessing the signing on video, receiving the originals by mail, and completing the process using a traditional ink stamp and signature.
All required notary supplies for both traditional and online Texas notary commissions are included in the Traditional + Online Notary package. Are you a new notary, or are you renewing your commission? It is the most filled package for you.
When it's time to enroll as a new or renewed notary, TXNotaryForm.com makes the process fast and easy, guiding you every step of the way.
Planning to notarize in person? The Traditional Notary package includes all the essential tools you’ll need. If you intend to perform remote notarizations via video call, the Traditional + Online Notary package provides everything required for online notarization. If you're new to the process or want extra peace of mind, the Premium Notary package is your best choice, offering added protection to help safeguard your finances.
After your payment is completed, you’ll receive an email with a unique link to submit the required information to begin the process. If you're assisting someone else, simply forward the email to the future notary. Once the form is submitted, the Texas Notary Bond will be issued. Next steps will depend on whether you’re applying yourself or we are applying on your behalf, and you’ll receive clear instructions accordingly.
In 3–28 days, depending on your chosen application method (3 days if we apply for you, up to 28 if you apply yourself—subject to SoS timing), your new or renewed notary commission will be granted. Once approved, notary supplies will be produced and shipped within 2 days. For online commissions, you'll receive video instructions on setting up your computer, using the digital certificate, and completing the online application.

An electronic seal (e-seal) is a digital version of your traditional notary stamp—a visual or graphic representation of electronic documents. It functions like a digital photocopy of your physical stamp, maintaining the same appearance and required details.
No, Texas does not require a Texas notary to use the same look for ink stamps and electronic seals. While both must answer the same criteria, they can look different, like text font, the design of 5-point stars, etc.
Texas law has no requirements to use only one ink stamp for paper documents; you can have as many ink stamps as you want while they answer State design requirements. However, your application presents a copy of the electronic seal to SoS, and only one looking electronic seal must be used. You can have it in different file formats for different software like PDF and JPG, but they must look the same.
